The CMO models canonical anatomy of the mouse head.
The CMO describes the canonical craniofacial anatomy of the mouse. We used the CHO as a starting template for CMO, pruning and editing as needed to represent anatomically homologous mouse structures, and then integrated terms from the Mouse Anatomical (MA) ontology (1). We used inference of the existence of missing structures from the vertebrate Bauplan and Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA), and verified these structures, as well as finding omitted ones, using domain experts and the translational research literature.
The content development mirrors that of the CHO where current efforts are directed towards spatio-structural description of anatomical entities related to the lips and the palate.
